Answer: Hello! These pencil crayons are designed for drawing a preliminary sketch on tinted paper (not glossy) before filling with color. This pencil will not replace a pastel pencil. -

Will these write on a chalk board?
Answer: They will but not well... That was why I bought them but they are too hard, scratchy and unpleasant to write with and difficult to erase. They do make a very fine line on the board though.

The Koh-I-Noor 6 Gioconda 5.6mm White Drawing Chalk is highly recommended for sketching outlines on black and colored watercolor paper. It provides a strong white color, a nice point, and can be easily removed when needed. However, it may not work well on chalkboards and the sticks are prone to breaking. It is also not suitable for writing on chalkboards or surfaces other than concrete. On the positive side, it works well for charcoal drawings, fabric marking, and using with stencils.
