Although the reissued edition is not as strong as the first edition, with most of the new material taking the form of a rambling 35-page foreword that could have used a stronger editor, it is still an essential read for anyone impacted by HIV and AIDS. However, there are a few errors in the book upon which detractors will pounce, and the "Suggested Further Reading/Viewing" list omits the fantastic 2009 documentary "House of Numbers." Overall, the book provides an eye-opening perspective on the AIDS epidemic and raises critical questions about conventional understanding of the disease.
