One big difference between the DS4011 (fixed) and DS4012 (variable) is that the DS4012 has a switch lock that can be activated to lock the drill ON. -

Which one is better, the fix speed or the variable speed, to bore large holes?
Answer: The variable speed is recommended for drilling large holes as you don't always want 100% power all the time. This gives you the best of both worlds. -
